Our services.

Growing up is hard work, parenting is even harder work! Sometimes our children need a little extra help and support from someone outside of the family. As a therapist and a mother, my goal is to help create more peace in your child’s life and more harmony in your home, because when one person in the family is struggling, everyone in the family is struggling.

Adolescent Therapy

Children learn through play, and that is why we PLAY during therapy. We use a variety of play modalities, including slime, dolls, puppets, sensory objects, board games, yoga and more. While children are playing they are more receptive to learning. While playing, therapists mix in pieces of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, social skills training, and behavior coping skills.

For pre teen and teen clients we primarily focus on learning healthy coping skills, recognizing body cues for our feelings and triggers, learning self advocacy and using therapy as a safe space for them to express their concerns and needs.

Because of the nature of therapy with children, all child therapy sessions are in person, in the office, located in downtown Fairfield.

Parent Guidance

Child therapy can not happen without the involvement of the parents/caregivers. All caregivers are encouraged to participate in parent sessions on a schedule that works best for their family and the needs of their children. Parent management sessions help with supporting the positive changes that are being made in therapy carry over to the home environment.

It is also a place for caregivers to ask for help with specific areas of concern and receive customized guidance from their child’s therapist.

Parent sessions can be completed via telehealth for convenience of working parents, or in the office.

The SPACE Program

Kathryn Walker is trained in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE). SPACE is an evidence based treatment for children and teens experiencing Anxiety disorders and OCD developed by Dr. Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center. Over a 12 week period caregivers learn how to adjust their parenting style to help their children. SPACE is done with just the parents in 12 weekly sessions.

Parents who participate in SPACE will learn skills and tools to help their child overcome anxiety, OCD or related problems. Parents learn through the 12 week program how to change their own behavior to help their children; specifically how to respond more supportively to their anxious child and how to reduce their accommodations that they have been making within the home for their child.

SPACE sessions can be completed either via telehealth or in person in the office.

Our Case Consultation & Management service offers a holistic approach to supporting your child’s development. We collaborate with schools, other healthcare providers and will provide referrals to a specialized list of curated child providers to build a team for you and your child. Think of Building Blocks Therapy as the collaborator and one that keeps everyone on the team on track and organized. We are also happy to accompany parents to PPT meetings at schools for IEP and 504 plan meetings.

Being a parent is hard enough, knowing what services are needed, how to access those services and how to communicate needs and progress is something we can help with and take some of the pressure off of you. Through ongoing coordination and regular follow-ups, we ensure your child has the right tools, resources, and strategies to thrive across all areas of life. This service provides peace of mind, knowing that your child’s care is being carefully managed.
